Final Cut
Final Cut is basically a low budget english film that i can imagine has not been seen by many, its a story about a group of friends thats been secretly filmed by Jude (Jude Law) which pretty much details and shames all of the groups lives which startles revelations which leads to wives falling out with husbands and friends going against friends etc. Judes film is left after his death for his wife Sadie (Sadie Frost) to find which unravels shocking facts that lead to Judes death.
I found that by using all the actors real names it felt alot more realistic and that maybe its actually happened to this certain group of friends in real life.
Ray Winstones newer films suck but he was the stand out in this for me…

Predators
Being such a big fan of the original Predator movie i knew it was going to take something pretty special to out do it, i managed to convince myself that this was going to be good after reading an article about it in EMPIRE but unfortunately its one of the worst i have sat through in a very long time. When you watch a bad film on TV or on the net you quickly get over it but as i paid £6.90p to go see this i felt very cheated that my large mixed popcorn was the only thing keeping me entertained…I don’t have many good words to say about this film other than that the jungle looked fantastic and the new school predator masks looked pretty sick but obviously this isn’t enough to justify an embarrassingly shoddy film. The actual story i thought was quite interesting but it just didn’t seem to work on the big screen, i dont mind a bit of cheese but when your trying to reenact the cheesy one liners of the great Arnold Schwarzenegger theirs only one man for the job and that’s himself. I’m sorry i haven’t really gone into too much detail on this one but there really isn’t much point.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

The Machinist
This brilliantly told thriller will make you feel uneasy just from Christian Bales physique, its quite painful seeing someone even skinnier than Sam Currie…Bale has literally transformed himself i actually couldn’t believe that i was looking at a real person for a while. Suffering from extreme insomnia, Trevor (Bale) enters a world of alter realities, complete confusion and memory loss. Watch as he and you unravel clues as to why this man has not slept for a year. You’ll never guess whats kept him awake so long…Great performance by Bale, maybe my favorite film i have seen of his but don’t expect anything other grey paranoia and torment, i think this is a must see.

Midnight Express
I’d been recommended this film by a friend who has pretty poor taste in films but it was a film on one of my favorite topics so I couldn’t ignore it, put it on my lovefilm list not expecting much from it but BANG I was so wrong …
It’s over 25 years old and one of the most harrowing and raw movies I’ve ever seen. Midnight Express is based on a true story and I can imagine it done nothing for the Turkish tourist trade for a few years after its 1978 release.
Its about a young American played by Brad Davies on vacation in Turkey, he’d been offered a lot of hash-hesh for dirt cheap and attempts smuggling it on his return to the states.
The movie starts in a Turkish airport, as soon as it starts you feel the rawness of the film, a very anxious young American ready to check in, chewing gum after gum, beads of sweat dripping down his face while shielding his eyes with sunglass, the guy cant stand still from the nervousness, he goes into the toilet to adjust the drugs strapped around his stomach, splashing his face with water trying to calm himself down. The first 20 minutes of the film are so tense you know he’s gona get busted any minute but he manages to get through about 3 security checks after intense questioning from security. He gets to the last security check and is asked to remove his sunglasses, at this point you think he’s definitely going to get busted but he’s let through, he literally gets on the steps to board the plane and boom, he’s tapped on the shoulder and asked to step aside for frisking…BUSTED, security reveal the 2 kilos (I think) strapped to his stomach!
He’s sentenced to 30 years in prison and you see a normal guy turn insane through all the physical and emotional cruelty he endures during his sentence. He’s continually promised release dates that are never kept, he knows there’s only one way out and he has to do it himself as he knows he’ll just end up dying in that hell hole …
O and the soundtrack is pretty awesome too, everything you’d expect from a late 70′s film, retro definitely came to mind after hearing the soundtrack.
Very solid, well-made flick by Alan Parker that will definitely make you avoid any kind of trouble with the Turkish authorities.
